HUME WANTS HIGHER LEVEL

LEICESTER Lion Cubs skipper Danyon Hume is ready to step up a level – if he gets the call.

With an increasing possibility of a tweak to team strengths in the top two divisions, more British riders in the National League could be snapped up at a higher level.

Hume has confirmed he will continue to race for the Roger Webster Lion Cubs whatever happens – and he’s preparing for the most important season of his career.

He said: “I’m getting everything prepared ready for the 2021 season and I’m doing all I can to make it the best season of my career.

“I’m working hard behind the scenes with investment in my equipment and I don’t want to fall short in any department.

“I’m hoping for a place in a Championship or Premiership side as I know National League racing isn’t enough for me at this stage of my career. I’m certainly ready to give it a shot and I know I can do someone a good job.

“I’ve been unlucky in the past when injury has hit me at the wrong time. I realise a lot of riders can point to this but I truly believe my career would have flourished more a couple of years ago. I’m still hungry to go to the next level and the belief is still there.”

Speedway bosses are continuing to press ahead with plans for an Easter start to the 2021 season.

Leicester co-owner Damien Bates said: “It’s been a highly encouraging few days for the sport with news of the vaccines which means a lot of people should have had it by April, then of course news of fans going back into sporting venues from next week.

“We are pressing ahead with our plans for the new season and will be building up to it with great enthusiasm.”
